The Netherlands Media Art Institute invites every Dutch art academy to nominate a student graduating in the field of audiovisual and new media art for the René Coelho Prize 2011. The winner of the prize, which is named after the founder and former director of the Institute, René Coelho, will receive 1000,- Euros. All the nominated students will be allowed to take part in 3 day masterclass in September.
Every Dutch academy is allowed to nominate one or two students, whom, according to them, qualify for the prize. Besides this, a Netherlands Media Art Institute committee will select several candidates from different art school graduate exhibitions. A shortlist will be compiled and the winner will be chosen by an external jury, consisting of three experts and the chairman, NIMk's director. This year, the audience will also be allowed to pick their favorite artwork and the winner will receive the audience prize.
