Over the next four months, Duncan Speakman and Émilie Grenier will spend supported time at each lab, to develop a new sonic artwork that will use mobile technologies to connect strangers in a fascinating experience. The project seeks to explore the weight of the human voice in social environments full of micro-blogging and continuous status updates and investigates the impact of performance spread between separate physical locations.

Duncan Speakman has earned an international reputation for a number of works that physically and emotionally engage audiences in public spaces. Émilie Grenier’s practice includes working with wearable open source technologies for audio experiences to challenge users' assumptions about their surroundings. Both artists have previously collaborated on the creation of Duncan's subtlemob platform and look forward to opening their practice to different European contexts.

Duncan and Émilie will develop and produce their project until May 2011. During this period beta tests will happen at 5daysoff in Amsterdam and at the Pervasive Media Studio. (5daysoff festival will take place between 2-6 March 2011) The final piece will be presented during a festival in Hungary, the Netherlands or Great Britain throughout 2011.

Featuring discussion events, testing opportunities and a chance to follow their progress online, we invite you to join the conversation.
