Hippies from Hell is a portrait by journalist Ine Poppe of the first generation of hackers in Holland. The documentary shows Poppe being introduced to the hacker culture via her 15-year-old son Zoro. It addresses the ideals that drove this first generation, how they monitored the technological society and how, in the end, they almost lose the battle. But mostly, it’s a story about a group of inspired friends who, using their knowledge and organizational skills, have left a permanent mark on digital culture not just in Holland but in the rest of the world as well.
Hippies from Hell was made available online in 2002 and has been downloaded more than 1 million times since.
The documentary Hippies from Hell is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary.
After a brief introduction by Ine Poppe, the film will be screened at NIMk with time for Q&A at the end.
