Museum Night 2009

7 November 2009

Old Skool, New Soundz

During Museum Night 2009 the Netherlands Media Art Institute presents an exciting program that will be labelled 'old-skool' by many gamers and computer fanatics. There is a live performance with old synthesizer sounds by Acid Furious, a live dj-set with 8-bit music from game-boys by Gijs Gieskes and a hacking workshop in which an old Gameboy is transformed into an musical instrument. The solo-exhibition by Cory Arcangel revolves around old (or ageing) technologies too – but equally around current digital media technologies and cultures. Both the artist's older and new game-hacks, computer, film and video installations, in which technology, pop media and music are central, are there. With Old Skool, New Soundz the NMAI offers a lively program that will not only call up nostalgic feelings but also throw light on contemporary digital media in a playful and humorous way. Beginning at 10:00 p.m. visitors can enjoy dancing to the eclectic beats of Melanie Bonajo and guests.
