9 July

Home printing used to be a 2D experience, until now. Open Source hardware development is rapidly changing the 3D printing world. Until a few years ago, 3D printers were only affordable for large companies. Now, online communities design their own Do-It-Yourself alternatives.

The result? 3D printer-kits are sold for 750 dollars. If you recycle parts, you can build one for far less. More interesting: the printers start printing printers, making the printer itself the ultimate rapid
prototype.

In 3D printing, Open Source software and hardware development meet. In this workshop, i'll show you 2 3D printers i've build and how they work, both mechanically and in software. I will also tell a bit about the history of the 3D printing revolution, the current state of things and the challenges in designing even better 3D printers.
