Yoko Seyama Workshop

23 April

“Processing space using images and light”

--How video images can transform space

This workshop is themed “ the work of touching space” and will be led by Yoko Seyama, whom created Light Work #6: In Soil which is part of NIMk’s current exhibition Sonic Acts: Poetics of Space. In her light installations she strives to investigate and transform the architectural context through the use of light and visual images. She creates her works using both computer technology and hands on work, combining digital material, like video and photo’s with real materials like fabrics or paper which are all incorporated into her installations using 3 D model studies and architectural investigations, or as she has called it “processing space/work of touch for time based space”.  www.yokoseyama.com/

During the workshop the artist will first demonstrate her techniques. As participant, you will have the opportunity to create a 3D object using video images and a projector which will shine light “onto” a defined surface and with that avoid the flatness that often occurs with projected images. Instead, you will be able to reshape en rediscover the space in which you are working using your projected images, based on the concept that a video projection is light, a virtual image, that only exists once the light hits solid matter.
