Spuiplein / City Lab
the Spuiplein is the main public square where all kinds of interventions will amplify or transform the surrounding architecture. This square functions as the connecting space between the venues. A greenhouse bar and mini club and the new mobile presentation space from the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk) are located in the centre of this vibrant micro city, and here you will find various temporary structures and events, such as a pop store and a temporary cheese restaurant. The square functions as a social space where people meet, drink, eat or gather information about the programme.

Artvertiser (City Walks)
A project by Julian Oliver [NZ/DE], Damian Stewart [NZ/AT] and Arturo Castro [ES]
Presented in collaboration with NIMk
Category: Exhibition

Artvertiser enables replacing signs, billboards, banners and other forms of advertising with artworks through Augmented Reality technology. TodaysArt will see the world premiere of the new Android (mobile operating system for smartphones) port of the Artvertiser platform. The art works will be created by participants of a three day workshop (see page ...). The results will be made visible to the audience in four city walks through the Grote Marktstraat, which today is an area increasingly surrounded by advertising and visual communication signals. During the walk, when you look at an advertising surface through the display of an Android smartphone, the image is digitally replaced with an artwork created by workshop participants!
VR/urban [DE] - SMSlingshot
Presented in collaboration with NIMk
Category: Exhibition

VR/urban is a collective of public media interventionists founded in 2008. The aim of all their projects is to reclaim urban screens for the public. Following the tradition of situative art and graffiti culture, VR/urban augments existing city structures with digital and interactive media art. SMSlingshot was created as an extension of VR/Urban’s digital intervention activism. The installation features a handheld digital slingshot device that the audience uses to sling their texts onto public screens.

Bring Your Own Beamer (a concept by Rafaël Rozendaal [NL])
Presented in collaboration with NIMk and Teletekst is dood
Category: Exhibition / Screening
Tags: Installation / Media Art / VJ / Video Mapping / Film
Initiated by visual artist Rafaël Roozendaal, Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB) is a series of exhibitions presenting artists and their projectors. BYOB is an exploration of the medium of projection and a celebration of the new world we live in. Today, the Internet is confined to screens. But in the future, information will surround us, composing our surfaces, defining our spaces, enmeshing itself with the ether. A moving image is never an object, and when it is coupled with the increased flexibility of portable projection, the realm of experience quickly expands. Projections are very flexible and create freedom to react to each other’s works, to move things around, and to create a dynamic collaborative experience. At this first large outdoor edition of BYOB, everyone is invited to bring their own projector to transform the Spuiplein!
Universal Mediaman [NL] – Project Dagaz
Presented in collaboration with NIMk
Category: Exhibition / Screening
Tags: Installation / Interactive / Neurofeedback
Dagaz is an application, created by the Universal Mediaman (Beer van Geer), that helps people train their meditation level through a new intuitive game experience. Dagaz uses a headset that can register your brainwaves; by learning how to control brainwaves, the user can generate mandala shapes on a computer. Mandala shapes are symmetrical shapes that can be found in a lot of cultures and almost every religion. Every mandala shape is designed around a central point. Dagaz (which means ‘point’ in the ancient Futhark alphabet) uses that central point to help users train their meditation skills.
Frederic Brodbeck [DE/NL] – Cinemetrics
Presented in collaboration with NIMk
Category: Exhibition / Screening
Tags: Installation / Interactive / Film / Cinema / Design
Since motion pictures are a time-based medium, they can only be seen one image at a time – only as a fraction, never as a whole. That’s why it’s hard to capture and display them in their entirety. Taking this as a challenge, Frederic Brodbeck developed Cinemetrics as his graduation project at the Royal Academy of Arts. Cinemetrics is about measuring and visualizing movie data, in order to reveal the characteristics of films and to create a visual ‘fingerprint’ for them.
Hyphae
A project by Teletekst is dood, Universal Mediaman and TodaysArt presented in collaboration with NIMk

Hyphae is an innovative music platform that hosts live-streamed performances by artists from all over the world, providing an insight into the exploding digital and web-based music culture. During Hyphae events, digital sounds and images are transferred to the physical world through live-streaming shows featuring sublime artists performing live from their own parties, homes or studio's. The audience experiences the artist(s) live and the artist(s) sees the audience live. The Hyphae programme will be announced at the festival and on our website. For now: Todd Osborn (Detroit, Ghostly International) is confirmed! People who aren’t attending the Hyphae events on Friday and Saturday can follow the performances live via www.hyphae.nl.

Economic transformations, hacker culture and why we should be so lucky
Saturday
Category: Talk

What comes after capitalism? DYNDY will give an overview on the development of complementary and alternative monetary systems: which ones are here to stay, how do they influence social development, how can they be improved and why hackers should really care.
DYNDY is an effort to inform and empower communities with concepts and tools to overcome scarcity. Quoting Bernard Lietaer: “We can’t imagine to enter the Information Age without changing the fundamental and most used communication tool: money.” At TodaysArt, DYNDY intends to follow this call and break the foremost taboo of our time which is, indeed, money. They intend to establish a theoretical and practical framework to further development of this ancient medium, which is widely used around the world and can benefit from the innovative drive that hackers have so far given to networking technologies. The language used will be both technical and theoretical. No particular knowledge is needed, just pure interest on the subject.
