Video Vortex Conference

11-12 March 2011

On March 11th and 12th, 2011, the Institute of Network Cultures presents Video Vortex#6, a conference about online video, hosted in TrouwAmsterdam.

Conference themes: Online Video Aesthetics; It’s not a Dead Collection, it’s a Dynamic Database; The World of Online Video - Country Reports; Platforms, Standards and the Trouble with Translation; Online Video as a Political Tool; and Online Video Art.

Speakers include: Natalie Bookchin, Vito Campanelli, Andrew Clay, Dagan Cohen (Upload Cinema), Florian Cramer, Patrícia Dias da Silva, Arjon Dunnewind (Impakt Festival), Sandra Fauconnier (NIMk), Sam Gregory (WITNESS), Mél Hogan, Nuraini Juliastuti and Ferdiansyah Thajib (KUNCI), Ashiq Jahan Khondker and Eugene Kotlyarenko, Koen Leurs, And Lowenthal (EngageMedia), Ben Moskowitz, Joanne Richardson, Evan Roth, Florian Schneider, Teague Schneiter (IsumaTV), Catrien Schreuder (Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen), Michael Strangelove, Matthew Williamson, Holmes Wilson (Participatory Culture Foundation/Universal Subtitles), and Roel Wouters.

On Thursday March 10th, the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, in collaboration with INC and the Netherlands Media Art Institute (NIMk), organize two workshops at NIMk. Workshops offer participants the opportunity to gather hands-on experience with moving images on the internet, playing with a range of online video tools and technologies. Facilitated by artists, the topics are: Remixing and Re-Use of Open Video Collections and an Animated Gif Mashup Studio.

On the evening of Saturday March 12th, the INC hosts a closing party, offering a lively evening of artist performances, projections and music.
